This practice was founded by Dr. Louisa Ferrara-Gonzalez, an internationally recognized expert in the field, who became increasingly worried about the quality of care newborns were receiving when faced with feeding difficulties.
Whether they were being discharged from the NICU, or developing difficulties at home, it became clear that the care being offered was not timely, not evidence-based and was often provided by SLPs, OTs and/or lactation consultants with limited experience.
In 2025 Dr. Louisa decided to start this practice to improve access to specialized providers; to help educate parents about feeding practices; and to advocate for this specialty within the medical community.
It is estimated that 25-45% of children will be diagnosed with a Pediatric Feeding disorder. Dr. Louisa and The Team at Infant Feeding Specialists aim to lower this risk by ensuring every family has access to expert care.
All of our Providers are Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT) or are qualified by other credentials or extensive experience working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Most families can only access these specialized providers while still in the NICU, but here at Infant Feeding Specialists we make them more easily accessible to families in need of support.
